GETTING TO ASHEVILLE IS EASY WITH NEW FLIGHTS
Making a great escape to Asheville via air is now easier and more affordable thanks to new flights from AirTran Airways. The airline announced new summer routes that include nonstop service from Asheville Regional Airport between Tampa and an additional nonstop flight to Orlando.

Direct Flights from Tampa
Nonstop flights between Asheville and Tampa will be available beginning May 4. Flights from Asheville to Tampa will depart at 2:09 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and at 1:27 p.m. on Sunday. Flights from Tampa to Asheville will depart at 11:49 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and at 11:07 a.m. on Sunday.

More Direct Flights from Orlando
While AirTran already operates three nonstop direct flights to Orlando, the airline will add a fourth flight beginning May 4. Flights from Asheville to Orlando will depart at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flights from Orlando to Asheville will depart at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday.

New Nonstop Flights between Asheville and Dallas/Fort Worth
Getting to Asheville from the Lone Star State is easier than ever thanks to nonstop jet service between Asheville Regional Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport beginning April 6.

American Eagle Airlines, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will operate the flights. Flights will run through the fall, with service ending temporarily on October 31.

Scheduled flights from Asheville to Dallas/Forth Worth will depart at 9:40 a.m. and arrive in Dallas 11:15 a.m. Flights from Dallas/Forth Worth to Asheville will depart at 5:35 p.m. and arrive at 8:45 p.m.

THE WORLD'S 1ST QUILT BLOCK SUNDIAL IS COMING TO BURNSVILLE!

YOU ARE INVITED TO THE INSTALLATION AND DEDICATION OF THE WORLD'S 1ST QUILT BLOCK SUNDIAL
If you've been reading our blog, you already know we think we have the best of the best - breathtaking mountains - including the highest peak in eastern North America,(Mt. Mitchell), America's Favorite Drive, (The Blue Ridge Parkway), America's favorite trail, (The Appalachian Trail), gorgeous rivers for every water sport, the most wonderful, guileless people you could hope to meet, The Cove at Celo Mountain (of course!), the Quilt Trails of Western North Carolina...and the list goes on.

But coming this weekend (Friday, March 19th, at noon), our historic hometown of Burnsville will celebrate the installation of the world's first Quilt Block Sundial and North Carolina's largest vertical sundial on the Yancey Common Times Journal building at 22 N. Main Street. The 8-foot sundial will be visible from the town square. Designers were Bob Hampton and Martin Webster. The dedication ceremony is Saturday, March 20th at noon. Bob will teach us how to read the sundial and give us some interesting background information. There will be brochures, posters and t-shirts for sale to commemorate this historic event.

Executive Director of the Quilt Trails of Western North Carolina, Barbara Webster, and her group of dedicated volunteers have already garnered numerous awards and acclaim, including a write-up in the Wall Street Journal and a Best of North Carolina State Award. Our counties have been blessed with the beauty of these quilt blocks, the added revenue from the tourism they have generated, and a unique opportunity to share our heritage through the quilt blocks and the stories that have been written for them.
