A Vignette of History and Home - Dating to the late 1700's - near THE COVE AT CELO MOUNTAIN

Generational locals say this is one of the most beautiful springs they can remember.
Wild azalea - locals call it honeysuckle
After our church's First-Sunday-of-the-Month dinner today, a friend agreed that this might be a good time to go in search of the trilliums and other blooms her daughter had seen along the Blue Ridge Parkway a week or so ago.  I love the history here, the people whose lives and beautiful characters have been shaped through the demanding challenges of living in these mountains, and - of course, the spectacular scenery all around us.

This vignette of home and history through photos is of a family who has lived on this same land (his) for 7 generations and (hers) for the same length of time.  Their 5 children - the 8th generation - have now been deeded the land from both sides of the family.  The family names are well known in these mountains and near THE COVE AT CELO MOUNTAIN.  Many of the original roads within Celo Lands were cut out by the current patriarch of this family.  The 6th generation father walked across the mountain from 7 Mile Ridge every morning 5 days a week (a 10 mile or so trek)- getting up around 3 a.m. to arrive at his job constructing The Blue Ridge Parkway.  He was known as the powder man - using explosives to blow the rocks out to build this breathtaking highway we drove on today, known as America's Favorite Drive.  His pay - $1.30/hr.

This is one part of many sagas surrounding the history of this land  - from Indians (arrowheads still found here), to old logging trails, old mines and more.
Come enjoy this celebrated season in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in this small sanctuary setting of THE COVE AT CELO MOUNTAIN, a premier gated community between Asheville and Boone - just off the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Spend 3 days/2 nights with us on our special visit package at a wonderful historic Bed-and-Breakfast in a county that was Civil War Confederate. Then drive 15 miles down the road to dine at the nationally acclaimed 10-table Knife and Fork, in the sister county that was aligned with the Union - another part of our history.
