Architectural Design Plans - Main Floor - THE COVE AT CELO MOUNTAIN

Allen and Bevo Peterson Home - Main Floor - Estate Home Site# 35
Armin L. Wessel, Inc, Architect
As promised in the interview blog post with our Preferred Architect, Armin Wessel (December 5, 2011 post), he and estate homeowners, Allen and Bevo Peterson, have agreed to share the experience of planning and building their custom-designed home with blog viewers - to help you see what an exciting, rewarding and easy process this can be.
Installment # 1 - The Finalized Main Floor Plans
Personal Considerations:  Downsizing from a large, unique historic homestead here in Yancey County to a small, private mountain retreat intentioned as the main headquarters as homeowners travel, continue mission support work abroad and spend additional time at their coastal home.  (See homeowner testimonial on blog post:  Why We Chose This Western North Carolina Community (September 21, 2011)
Architectural Style:  A Rustic Mission Image with Rock and Timber Accents
Design Priorities:  Situated on site to take advantage of the topography and, of course, the views
  • The views from the Great Room and the Covered Porch are Long-Range Views
  • The views from the Den and Kitchen angled walls are of the Stream and Waterfall area
Additional Features: The Great Room, Kitchen, Dining Room, Den and Master Bedroom will have vaulted ceilings.  The Covered Porch will also be vaulted.

Homeowners' Design Comments:  "We have designed this house slowly over several months and after multiple visits to the homesite.  We got very helpful comments from our son and daughter-in-law, both engineers; as well as from our son who is a kitchen designer.  Friends, and others have added their views, as we hope this will be a cooperative design that makes our home a respite for all who visit."

Not Shown:  There is a partial lower level that includes 2 Guest Bedrooms and a Single Bath. There is a stair to a sewing room above the garage - perhaps to be finished at a later date.

Size:  Finished area about 2700 square feet plus about 300 s.f. above the garage.  Estate lot size is 1.02 acres.

Of Note: Foundation costs will be reasonable helping to meet budget.

From the Homeowners - Why They Chose The Cove at Celo Mountain:
We wanted a gated community, near Burnsville, with low-key amenities and a natural approach to maintaining the character of Yancey County. We spend a great deal of time on the North Carolina coast, and traveling. So, we wanted a secure, beautiful, small setting as our home base. Today, we own a fabulous lot near the top of the development, and are excited about building a home there soon."
